Ionia Middle School Bands
The band program at Ionia Middle School offers several performing ensembles for students at a variety of different performing levels and interests.
The main goal of this critical year is for the student to develop excellent playing habits in the areas of tone, articulation, posture, and proper rehearsal demeanor. Except for performing at Middle School Band Concerts in December and May, there are no after school group commitments for beginning band members. Outside of the school day practicing, however, is a must for the student to begin to develop their full potential on their instrument.

The ensemble also participates in the MSBOA District Band Festival in late February and in the Memorial Day Parade in Ionia.

The Jazz Band is comprised of students in the 7th and 8th grade band. Students must have had at least one year of performing experience. In addition, a student must be in a curricular band class to be in the jazz band. The group meets Tuesday and Thursday after school in the band room from 2:45-3:30. The students in this group perform music in swing, latin, rock, and pop styles and learn the basics of improvisation. The ensemble is welcome to students who play alto, tenor, baritone sax, trumpet and trombone. See Mr. Brill or Mr. Beyer if you are interested in becoming a member of the group.
